MGI Amazing Thailand Project (Part 2)
Miss Grand International 2016 Top 5 finalists reunited for promoting Thailand tourism
worldwide and this year’s edition The 2nd Destination: Chumphon 8-9 April 2017
After the elegant trip in Phuket, Our Top 5 Finalists of MGI 2016 took their journey to another province in the south of Thailand; Chumphon, the Southern Gateway of Thailand. Chumphon has been able to maintain its natural beauty largely untouched by mass tourism and is relatively unspoilt. There are plenty of opportunities for sightseeing, walking tours, sunbathing & swimming, canoeing, cave exploring, fishing, yachting, diving and snorkeling. The Province has numerous National Parks and tropical islands plus caves, waterfalls and coral reefs. For the Chumphon trip, we focused on Adventures with Slow Life, which was quite different from our previous Phuket trip. In addition, our 5 beauties had to explore some adventurous activities and learn Islanders’ life styles in Koh Phithak (Phithak Island) in Chumphon province.
8 April 2017:Tee Ban Nok Swiftlet Learning Center, Chumphon / Krom Luang Chumphon Khet Udomsak Royal Palace / Sai Ri Beach / Khao Matsee Overlook
One of the famous products of Chumphon province that the tourists cannot miss shopping for and bringing it back home with them from visiting Chumphon is bird's nest. Bird’s nest is indigenous to some southern provinces of Thailand, especially in Chumphon. Chumphon people have been blessed with this natural resource and many families have been consuming bird's nest regularly for decades and have benefited from this highly nutritious delicacy.
Tee Ban Nok Swiftlet Learning Center, Chumphon, one of the biggest bird's nest producers of Thailand has cultivated bird's nest for decades. The owner built a larger house for the swiftlets that are naturally found in abundance in Chumphon city. Blessed by the strategic location and the presence of natural food sources, they were able to provide the ideal living conditions for the swiftlets to nest in. Over time, thousands of swiftlets nestled in this swiftlet house and the population increased exponentially. From visiting Tee Ban Nok Swiftlet Learning Center, our 5 MGI beauties learned how to cultivate and provide the great maintenance and skillful harvest and bird’s nest screening process to ensure a high standard of quality and purity of bird's nest before being sold to consumers. Tee Ban Nok Swiftlet Learning Center is dedicated to maintain the quality of swiftlet house in order to bring to consumers premium quality bird's nest for their enjoyment. From this visit, we found that all bird’s nests here are 100% purely & safely consumable processed from Bird House to Packaging.
After lunch at Tee Ban Nok Swiftlet Learning Center, we moved on to Krom Luang Chumphon Khet Udomsak Royal Palace to pay respect to the monument of Admiral Krom Luang Chumphon Khet Udomsak who was considered to be the father of the Royal Thai Navy. He was the 28th son of the prominent Thai King Rama V, and he showed an early interest and ability in nautical matters. He spent six years in the UK studying in the Royal Naval Academy. Upon his return to Thailand (Siam) he held a number of important positions in the Royal Thai navy. He was noted for modernizing the navy and creating a professional officer corps. He became the Commander of the Navy in 1922. The memorial is located at the northern end of Sai Ri beach and is a sacred place for the inhabitants of Chumphon. The shrine turns busy all day long with local worshippers who make their wishes. Bangs from firecrackers and firearms fill the air every few minutes. Worshippers believe the sound will make their wishes fulfilled.
Our MGI 2016 team continued to relax along the beach called Sai Ri Beach or Hat Sai Ri which is not far from Krom Luang Chumphon Khet Udomsak Royal Palace. This scenic and popular beach of Chumphon is a large, curved beach that is a favorite among the Chumphon people for their relaxation. There are some accommodations and restaurants available along the beach. Our 5 beauties enjoyed the sea breeze and did some shooting here.
Our Top 5 MGI 2016 team’s last destination for the first day in Chumphon was ended at Khao Matsee Overlook (360 Viewpoint rest stop at Matsee Mountain or Khao Matsee).
At Khao Matsee Viewpoint rest stop, our MGI team had a chance to pay respect to The Statue of “Kuan Yin, Goddess of Mercy and Compassion” which is beautifully constructed on the top of Matsee mountain that transmits a feeling of peace and serenity as relaxing here, and the 5 beauties created the feeling of lighting an incense while making a prayer for world peace and harmony together.
The last activity before getting back to the hotel was the moment when our 5 beauties made a quick stop at the Khao Matsee Overlook with a small tea party at the top of the viewpoint along with the delicacy of bird’s nest soup served on the table while enjoying the superb views of Pak Nam Chumphon and its fishing village below. Our beauties also enjoyed making sweet iced flake added as their dessert at the tea party.
Then, all the MGI 2016 team and staff went back to Tam Sabai Resort to have dinner and have a full relaxation for the activities on the following day at Koh Phithak (Phithak Island).
9 April 2017: Touching a slow life at Koh Phithak (Phithak Island)
In the late morning of 2nd day in Chumphon after breakfast at Tam Sabai Resort, the 5 ladies took a fishing boat to Koh Phithak (Phithak Island) to touch senses of adventurous & authentic travel experience with a slow life by visiting villagers' homestay accommodation on the island. This island is in Tambon Bang Nam Chuet and is one kilometre from the shore. The island has beautiful rocks and many fishing villages. When the tide is low you can walk from the shore to the island. After arriving, our 5 beauties were warmly welcomed by the villagers with fresh coconut juice and some flowers and then they had a chance to help each other cook the southern local recipes with a very kind offering for fresh seafood ingredients from the house owner.
After a full lunch break with their real own cooking, the 5 beauties visited a souvenir shop on the island and learned how to make some handmade items with the villagers such as painting on sea shells and painting on Batik pants. In addition, they had a chance to learn how to make a seine to catch fish and sea animals with the villagers that could be the first time for our 5 beauties to have such experience of learning these ways of local life that is rare to find in their fast-paced everyday living in any big cities. The last activity of visiting Phithak Island was taking canoeing. Unfortunately, because of strong wind and heavy waves, our beauties couldn’t take this activity as long as they wanted.
At the end of the day that was quite late in the evening, our Top 5 MGI 2016 team took a fishing boat to Tam Sabai Resort to have dinner and join a farewell party arranged by the owner of Tam Sabai Resort and the Governor of Chumphon province together with his wife and the CEO of Tee Ban Nok Chumphon along with his family were also honorably invited to the party.
